Dominican Republic Tour 2027.
We are delighted to announce that the Cornell Orchestras will travel to the Dominican Republic from March 29 to April 5, 2027, for a special tour combining performances, educational outreach, and cultural exchange. The tour will give our members the opportunity to perform for Dominican audiences, connect with local music students, and experience firsthand the extraordinary musical culture of the Dominican Republic.

Community Outreach
As part of the tour, Cornell Orchestras musicians will connect with music students and young
musicians throughout the Dominican Republic through educational activities, workshops,
masterclasses, and other outreach events. These activities will give our members the opportunity
to share their experiences as musicians while learning from and building connections with young
musicians in the Dominican Republic. Through these exchanges, we hope to foster meaningful
connections and celebrate the power of music to bring communities together.
Continuing the Work of Sounding Kiskeya
This tour continues the work we began during the Sounding Kiskeya Symposium at Cornell in
March 2026, which brought together musicians, scholars, and artists to explore the musical
cultures of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Through performances and programming during
the symposium, our members had the opportunity to engage deeply with repertoire from the
island and to discover composers and musical traditions that are not often represented in the
concert hall. During our tour, our members will have the opportunity to deepen their
understanding of the music and culture they began exploring during Sounding Kiskeya.
At the center of this continued work is Darwin Aquino’s Folklofonía, a new work
commissioned by the Cornell Orchestras. Its premiere on this tour represents an especially
meaningful continuation of our commitment to bringing Dominican and Caribbean musical
voices into our programming and creating opportunities for our members to engage with this
repertoire in a deeper and sustained way.
